5 Cars Impounded, 19 Tickets, But No DUI Arrests at Indio Checkpoint

A drunken driver checkpoint came up without any arrests, but six motorists avoided jail time as they passed field sobriety tests, at an overnight checkpoint in Indio, officers said today.

The six drivers were tested out of 446 vehicles that passed through the sobriety checkpoint that started Saturday night at Fred Waring Drive and Madison Street, according to the Indio Police Department.

Nineteen drivers were cited for either driving without a license or on a suspended license. Five vehicles were impounded and towed during the operation, Indio police said.
