5 Drivers Arrested For Alleged DUI in Indian Wells

During a checkpoint staffed by sheriff's deputies in Indian Wells five drivers were arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and 31 field sobriety tests were conducted. One person was arrested on a misdemeanor warrant

Sheriff's deputies staffing a checkpoint in Indian Wells over New Year's Eve and New Year's Day arrested five motorists for alleged DUI and another eight were arrested for alleged licensing violations.

The checkpoint was staffed between 9 p.m. Monday through 2 a.m. Turesday at Highway 111, west of Mountain Cove Drive, in Indian Wells.

Of the 1,204 vehicles that passed through the checkpoint, 675 were screened and 31 field sobriety tests were conducted, Riverside County Sgt. Dave Adams wrote in a news release.

Deputies also impounded eight vehicles, Adams reported and collared a motorist on a misdemeanor DUI warrant.

Funding for the operation was secured from the state Office of Traffic Safety.
