Alcohol a Possible Factor in Vehicle vs. Hydrant Crash

A Palm Desert man was arrested after misjudging a turn, hitting a curb and then colliding with a fire hydrant, said Palm Desert Police officials.

A driver who ran into a fire hydrant while attempting to turn into a driveway in Palm Desert has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Camilo Gomez, 28, from Palm Desert, was treated for minor injuries at a hospital before his arrest, Palm Desert Police Sgt. Radek Horkel wrote in a news release.

Gomez was found at 2:04 Monday morning at the intersection of Monterey Avenue and Parkview Drive after a report of a single car crash, Horkel wrote.

Gomez had reportedly been headed north on Monterey in a white Ford Fiesta approaching the intersection with Parkview Drive where he tried to make a left hand turn, Horkel wrote. But the driver misjudged the turn, drove up onto a curb and collided with a fire hydrant, according to the news release.

A preliminary investigation revealed that alcohol was a factor in the crash, Horkel wrote. Gomez was booked into county jail in the city of Indio.

The investigation is ongoing and officials ask anyone with information about this incident to contact the Palm Desert Police Department at (760) 836-1600 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 760-341-7867.

You';re welcome, Renee but I don't really expect thanks for my contributions to the classroom. IRead More wasn't going to stand by and see kids not have the basic things they needed to get through the class and most teachers are of the same mind :) Sadly, school budgets have never covered all the needs in classrooms.
