Alleged Burglar Free On Bail

Authorities found a flat-screen television and a Sony PlayStation 3, suspected to be stolen from the Palm Desert residence.

A Mecca man suspected of stealing electronics from a Palm Desert home and other locations was free on $30,000 bail today.

Jose Luis Herrera, 35, was arrested around 5 p.m. Tuesday when authorities served a warrant at a residence in the 65300 block of Wolff Drive in Mecca, sheriff's Sgt. Jeff Buompensiero said.

Authorities found a flat-screen television and a Sony PlayStation 3, suspected to be stolen from the Palm Desert residence, Buompensiero said.

"They also recovered several other flat screen televisions, and computers believed to be stolen property. In addition, they located a small quantity of methamphetamine and a firearm,'' the sergeant said.

The Palm Desert burglary was reported Jan. 12 in the 40400 block of Posada Court. Several items were stolen, including two flat-screen televisions, computers, and a PlayStation 3.

Herrera was booked at the county jail in Indio on suspicion of possession of stolen property, possession of a controlled substance for sale, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and other weapons-related charges.

He posted the $30,000 bond today and was expected to be arraigned April 17 at the Larson Justice Center in Indio, according to jail records.
