Kara Carr of Indio was free on bail from a December DUI case, according to jail records.

An Indio woman, who was free on bail from a December DUI arrest, is suspected of driving drunk in a crash that damaged Cancer Survivor's Park in Rancho Mirage.

Kara Carr, 27, is accused of veering a Pontiac Firebird "through the grass at the Cancer Survivor's Park, destroying plants and scattering decorative rock, before becoming wedged between multiple trees on the south end of the park," according to Sgt. Dave Eichelt of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

Deputies responded to the crash at 1:14 a.m. Tuesday at the park, which is located at Highway 111 near Frank Sinatra, Eichelt said.

Carr struck her head against the windshield and was taken to Eisenhower Medical Center for treatment, and she was ordered to appear in court in the coming months, he said. The passenger was uninjured.

"The passenger claimed he was driving, despite witnesses seeing him help the female from the driver's seat immediately after the crash," the sergeant said.
