A La Quinta man allegedly speeding through an intersection to beat the light slammed his car into a Mercedes Benz Saturday and was subsequently arrested on suspicion of DUI.
Lorenzo Roman-Nose, age 38 of La Quinta, was arrested on suspicion of DUI following the crash on Highway 111, near El Dorado Drive, in Indian Wells, reported shortly before 7 p.m.
According to investigators, Roman-Nose was speeding in his Chrysler New Yorker east on 111 when the light changed and he plowed through the intersection, slamming into a Mercedes ML550, Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. Patrick Carroll reported.
The Mercedes driver had a minor complaint of pain but refused medical treatment at the scene, Carroll wrote in a news release.
"It is believed that alcohol consumption was a factor in this collision," the sergeant wrote.
The suspect was not injured, he added.

Shortly after Roman-Nose's crash and near his crash, another motorist -- this one identified as Deborah Rakes, 59, of Indian Wells -- was involved in a suspected DUI crash.
Sheriff's deputies from the Indian Wells station about 7:20 p.m. went to investigate the crash of a Nissan Altima on eastbound Highway 111 into a Ford Fiesta; the Fiesta was pushed into a Mazda Protege 5, authorities said.
The crash occurred near El Dorado Drive, as the Fiesta and Protege were stopped to allow deputies to investigate the first crash on 111, Carroll reported.
Rakes was arrested for suspicion of DUI and later booked into the county jail, Carroll reported.
Booking records were not available for Rakes Saturday night.
