Alzheimer's Patient Feared Missing Shows Up on Bus

Lemgoc Nguyen went missing from a La Quinta Trader Joe's earlier this week.

A 65-year-old woman who went missing after her family dropped her off at a Trader Joe's store in La Quinta was found on a bus in Palm Springs, police reported Friday.

Indio resident Lemgoc Nguyen, who has the onset of Alzheimer's disease and is diabetic, was dropped off at the grocery store on Highway 111 and Washington Street around 11:30 a.m. Thursday. When her family returned for her about an hour later, no one could find her in the store or around the area, according to Indio police spokesman Ben Guitron.

They reported her missing to Indio police, who alerted the Riverside County Sheriff's Department. Around 9:50 p.m. Thursday, SunLine Transit Agency told police their employees had found Nguyen on a Palm Springs bus route near Palm Canyon Drive. She'd boarded a bus near Trader Joe's, and SunLine staff recognized her from news reports and an alert sent around the bus system, Guitron said.
