The four residents escaped uninjured, but the flames gutted the 1,600-square-foot home.

A fire destroyed a La Quinta home this morning, but the house's four residents weren't hurt, a county fire department spokeswoman said.

The blaze, which started in the attic, was reported about 9 a.m. in the 52900 block of Avenida Alvarado. The flames gutted the 1,600-square-foot residence, which had been home to two adults and two children, Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Melody Hendrickson said.

The fire was contained about 9:40 a.m. The cause was under investigation.
