Alleged Resort Burglar Expected to Enter Plea

A 19-year-old man suspected of stealing flat-screen TV sets from seven vacant condos in Palm Desert will likely enter a guilty plea at a hearing next month.

Omar Sanchez Avila of Coachella is accused in the July 22 residential burglaries at the in the 45700 block of San Luis Rey Avenue, near Highway 111, according to Sgt. Andrew Nielsen of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

Avila appeared in court Tuesday for a bail review hearing, which was put off when his attorney asked for a pre-plea report.

Riverside County Supervisor Victoria E. Cameron ordered the report to be taken by an Oct. 4 hearing.

Avila was arrested following a search warrant being served at his home, where investigators found two of the seven televisions, which are worth $1,800, Nielsen said.

Sanchez is being held in the Indio Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.
