A 52-year-old bicyclist suffered injuries Saturday when he rode into the side of a Subaru driven by an 87-year-old Palm Desert resident turning from Highway 74 to Mesa View Drive.
The crash was reported about 12:20 p.m., according to Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. Radek Horkel.
In a written news release, the sergeant reported that the cyclist was riding north on Highway 74, approaching the intersection with Mesa View Drive, when the motorist -- heading south on 74 -- made a left turn in front of the rider.
The rider could not stop in time and slammed into the Subaru, the sergeant reported; he suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Alcohol is not thought to have played a part in the crash.
