Body Found on Bighorn Overlook Trail

The body of a dead hiker was found Sunday on a trail near the Rancho Mirage City Hall, a sheriff's official said.

Sheriff's deputies received a call shortly after 10 a.m. from a hiker who found the body on the Bighorn Overlook trail, which sits behind City Hall, according to Riverside County sheriff's Deputy Joshua Morales.

Members of the sheriff's forensics team were called to examine the scene. The death will be treated an unattended because there were no witnesses, Morales said.

It was not immediately known how long the body was on the trail, Morales said. The identity of the person was not released pending notification of kin.
