Boy, 12, Arrested for Allegedly Shooting Another Near Valley High School

A 12-year-old Cathedral City boy was arrested Wednesday for allegedly shooting at another youngster near Cathedral City High School.

Police received reports of gunfire about 3:50 p.m. May 19 near Dinah Shore Drive and Linda Way, south of the school. Some youths also came forward and told police that a boy pulled a handgun from his clothing and fired at another minor during an altercation, Cathedral City police Sgt. Paul Herrera said.

The target of the gunfire wasn't hurt, and investigators couldn't immediately find anyone connected to what happened, he said.

A few days later, an officer got information about who may have been involved, conducted interviews and put together photographic line-ups that led to the 12-year-old as the suspect. He was interviewed today, then arrested on suspicion of assault with a firearm and taken to juvenile hall in Indio, Herrera said.
