UPDATE: Ceremony to Honor Law Enforcement Officers Killed in Line of Duty

Update 3:25 p.m. A ceremony to honor law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty is scheduled at 6 p.m. Monday Dec. 9 in Palm Desert.

Among those who will be remembered are Riverside police Officer Michael Crain, gunned down by rogue former LAPD cop Christopher Dorner on Feb. 7 in Riverside, and San Bernardino County sheriff's Detective Jeremiah MacKay, slain in the final standoff with Dorner Feb. 12 east of Angelus Oaks.

Riverside County Sheriff Stan Sniff invites the public to join his department in the Blue Light Ceremony "to honor the brave men and women in law enforcement who have paid the ultimate sacrifice to protect and serve their community."

The ceremony will be held at the Palm Desert Station, 73-705 Gerald Ford Drive.

The Riverside County Sheriff's Department plans to recognize the following officers dating back to 1895:

1895 Frank Hamilton: Riverside County Sheriff's Department

1907 Preston Swanguen: Riverside County Constable for Temecula

1912 John Baird: Riverside Police Department

1912 Del MacIntyre: Riverside Police Department

1913 Grant Alexander: Corona Police Department

1921 Theodore Crossley: Riverside County Sheriff's Department

A second ceremony is scheduled at 6 p.m. Dec. 16 at the Riverside County Administrative Center, 4080 Lemon St. in downtown Riverside.

"During the ceremonies we will adorn the buildings with symbolic blue lights, as part of the national recognition program to pay respect to our fallen law enforcement officers who lost their lives in the line of duty," Sniff's staff said.

The Blue light Awareness Program was established by the Concerns of Police Survivors organization to enhance public awareness of law enforcement deaths across the country.
