CHP: Fourth of July DUI Arrests Up

DUI arrests and collisions both higher than last year

The California Highway Patrol says that auto collisions and DUI arrests over the Fourth of July holiday were higher than in 2011.

Between 6:00 PM on July 3rd to 6:00 AM July 5th, CHP Officers investigated nine vehicle collisions and arrested nine drivers for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.  Both numbers were an increase from the previous year.  In 2011, during the same days and time, CHP Officers investigated six vehicle collisions and arrested six drivers for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.  

Of the six collisions, three caused minor injuries.
