UPDATE: Five Arrested In CHP's DUI Checkpoint

The checkpoint was aimed at reducing the number of alcohol related accidents.

Five people were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence Saturday near Coachella.

The checkpoint was operated from 9 p.m. Saturday through 1 a.m. Sunday on the 86 Expressway on Dillon Road, according to CHP Officer Joe Zagorski.

The checkpoint was aimed at reducing the number of alcohol related accidents, Zagorski said.

During the checkpoint, 556 vehicles were screened with 10 drivers being checked further for impairment, he said.

Of the drivers checked, five drivers were arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and were booked into the Indio Jail.

Those five drivers were: Jesus Macias Ornelas, 40, Alex Damian Mendoza, 20, Francisco Aguilar Zepeda, 36, Aldo Diaz Rubio, 48, and Eduardo Quiava Panso, 18, according to jail records.
