COACHELLA CRASH: Man Suspected of Driving While Impaired with Alcohol or Drugs

A man involved in a crash on Wednesday in Coachella allegedly showed signs of driving while impaired with alcohol or drugs, a sheriff's sergeant said.

Coachella deputies responded to a reported traffic crash at 11:15 a.m. Oct. 23 in the area of Dillon Road and the 86 Expressway, Sgt. Adam Elders of the Thermal Station said.

"Upon arrival, officers determined that a red Ford F150 pickup truck towing a trailer had collided with a white Chevrolet Astro Van and had then fled the scene," Elders said.

"Witnesses were able to provide a license plate to the Ford which came back to an address in the 49000 block of Calle de Vega in Coachella."

Deputies went to the address and located the vehicle and driver, Elders said.

Investigators determined David Moya Perez, 35, of Coachella, showed signs of driving while impaired with alcohol and/or drugs and he was arrested, Elders said.

Perez was taken to Indio Jail, and charges of driving under the influence were expected to be filed with the District Attorney's Office, Elders said.

Anyone with more info was urged to call Coachella police at (760) 863-8990.
