A 32-year-old Coachella woman suspected of being intoxicated and running down a senior citizen, then trying to get away, was free on $75,000 bail Wednesday.
Sara Valencia Rojas was booked over the weekend into the Indio Jail on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run with death, following the crash about 5:10 p.m. Saturday, sheriff's records indicate.
Rojas reportedly left the scene of the crash, which occurred as Celia Miranda, 63, also of Coachella, crossed Avenue 49, south of Harrison Street, authorities said.
Peace officers caught up with Rojas on Harrison Street, near Sixth Street; Miranda died at at John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital, in Indio.
Rojas is due to make her first court appearance Jan. 24 at the Larson Justice Center, in Indio, sheriff's jail records indicate.
