Court Hearing Set for Palm Desert Man Suspected in Stabbing
Shimon Silberfenig, of Palm Desert is accused of stabbing a woman in a frozen yogurt shop.
A Feb. 7 preliminary hearing has been scheduled for a Palm Desert man accused of stabbing a woman at the Rancho Mirage frozen yogurt shop where they both worked, inflicting non-life-threatening wounds.
Shimon Silberfenig, 55, appeared in court Thursday. Authorities say he attacked a woman last Aug. 27 at Swirl Cup Self Serve Yogurt in the 34100 block of Monterey Avenue. He is charged with attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.
The preliminary hearing will determine if there is enough evidence for Silberfenig to stand trial.
The woman alleged Silberfenig "attacked her without provocation and stabbed her several times," said sheriff's Sgt. Andrew Nielsen, who did not cite a motive for the stabbing.
Silberfenig remains in custody at the county jail in Indio in lieu of $1 million bail.
