Sheriff's deputies staffing a checkpoint in Palm Desert arrested two motorists for suspected DUI and also collared seven others for alleged license violations.
The checkpoint was staffed between 9 p.m. Friday and 3:45 a.m. Saturday on Monterey Avenue, south of Country Club, according to a sheriff's sergeant.
Sheriff's deputies screened 537 vehicles, out of 620 that passed through the checkpoint, impounding five of those vehicles, the sergeant said.
Two drivers were arrested on suspicion of driving while impaired by drugs or alcohol and another seven for alleged license violations, Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. Dave Adams wrote in a news release.
Other agencies represented at the scene were Palm Desert's Citizens on Patrol and Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
