Sheriff’s deputies staffing a DUI checkpoint in Palm Desert arrested a motorist allegedly under the influence of alcohol or drugs and another motorist for an alleged drug violation, a sergeant reported.

Deputies also collared two others on active arrest warrants and another eight for license violations, Adams wrote in a news release.

Deputies impounded five vehicles – out of the 571 that passed through and were checked, Adams stated.

The irony is that purist originalists such as I [and Justice Thomas], realizing the Framers would not have tolerated this sort of suspicionless, warrantless proactive governmental liberty invasion, deem the police to be the scofflaws!

Did Thomas write a dissenting opinion in Michigan v. Sitz?

Driving is a privileged not a right. We the people have a choice....to go out and drink and get behind the wheel or not. There are avenues of escape, they can pull over and grab a taxi, or they can read the local news and find out where the checkpoint is to avoid it. Obviously they were too drunk to do either so they deserve to get arrested.
