Distracted Driver Campaign Starts in Palm Desert

Several agencies across the state are taking part in a crackdown of motorists who drive while texting or engaging in other distractions.

Palm Desert Police has announced it will join several law-enforcement agencies in a distracted driver campaign and will be actively ticketing motorists caught texting or operating hand-held cell phones on throughout the month of April.

“Drivers who break the law and place themselves and others in danger will be cited with no warnings,” wrote Palm Desert Police Sgt. David Adams in a news release. “The current minimum ticket cost is $159, with subsequent tickets costing at least $279.”

Local agencies throughout California and the California Highway Patrol are participating in the distracted driver campaign, themed "It's Not Worth It!"
