Driver Injured in Palm Desert Crash, Accused of DUI

A motorist sustained moderate injuries in a single-vehicle crash Friday morning in Palm Desert, and she was accused of driving under the influence, according to the Sheriff's Department.

The crash was reported at 5:11 a.m. at the corner of Highway 111 and Fred Waring Drive in Palm Desert, sheriff's Sgt. Ken Black said.

"A black GMC truck traveling south on Highway 111 drifted to the right and struck the traffic signal pole located on the southwest corner of the intersection," Black said.

The driver, identified as Jeanette Saubel, 44, of Cathedral City, sustained moderate injuries and she was taken to a local hospital for treatment, Black said.

"Saubel was not arrested due to her injuries and medical needs, but charges will be filed with the District Attorney's Office for driving while intoxicated," Black said.

Black urged all drivers to call 9-1-1 if they see a suspected drunk driver.
