DUI Checkpoint Announced for Palm Springs

The checkpoint is scheduled for Friday, June 21.

The Palm Springs Police Department announced a planned DUI/driver's licence checkpoint Tuesday.

The operation is planned for Friday, June 21, according to PSPD Sergeant Harvey Reed.  It will run at an undisclosed location between the hours of 8:30 p.m. and 2:30 a.m.

"The deterrent effect of DUI checkpoints is a proven resource in reducing the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol or drug involved crashes," a release from the sergeant said.  "Research shows that crashes involving alcohol drop by an average of 20 percent when well-publicized checkpoints are conducted often enough."

Funding for the operation is provided through state and federal grants.
