DUI Checkpoints Expected in Coachella Valley This Weekend

Authorities will be conducting checkpoints throughout the valley Friday through Sunday and New Year's Eve.

Several law enforcement agencies will staff DUI and driver's license checkpoints in the Coachella Valley later this week.

Palm Springs police officers will be at a checkpoint at an undisclosed location in the city from 9 p.m. Friday to 2:30 a.m. Saturday.

Riverside County sheriff's deputies will staff a checkpoint from 7 p.m. Friday to 2:30 a.m. Saturday and 7 p.m. Saturday to 2:30 a.m. Sunday in Coachella.

California Highway Patrol will be stationed at a checkpoint from 10 p.m. Saturday to 2 a.m. Sunday in the Coachella Valley.

Additionally, extra sheriff's deputies are patrolling Palm Desert, Indian Wells and Rancho Mirage for alcohol and drug-impaired drivers. A checkpoint is also planned in Palm Desert on Dec. 31, according to the sheriff's department.

Most checkpoints are funded by grants from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
