Elderly Palm Desert Woman Killed in Crash

The coroner's office reports that the 80-year-old driver slammed into a street lamp post in Indio.

An 80-year-old Palm Desert woman was killed this week after crashing into a street lamp post in Indio, coroner's officials reported Wednesday afternoon.

Sally Rusinski died at Desert Regional Medical Center following the crash on Avenue 42, west of Jackson Street, Tuesday, according to coroner's reports.

Reports indicate that Rusinski crashed around 2:30 p.m. in her sports utility vehicle "that lost control and collided with a street lamp post."

Indio Police Spokesman Ben Guitron tells Palm Desert Patch that Rusinski collided into the streetlight "for unknown reasons."

Indio paramedics first transported her to JFK hospital, but she was then airlifted to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs for further medical attention.

She died at DRMC about seven hours later.

The Indio PD traffic unit is investigating the crash.
