Fire Damages Apartment in Two-Story Building in La Quinta

A fire broke out Saturday in a two-story multi-family apartment building in La Quinta and more than 35 firefighters responded, a Cal Fire spokesman said.

The fire was reported at 10:51 a.m. Sept. 14 in the 78000 block of Cobalt Drive,  Mark Annas of Cal Fire-Riverside County said in a statement.

The first arriving engine crew reported heavy smoke in a lower floor apartment and the incident commander requested a second alarm response, Annas said. A total of nine engine companies and two truck companies worked to declare the fire contained at 11:47 a.m.

Crews used a breathing support unit during the fire fight, Annas said. The fire was contained to one apartment. Firefighters were expected to remain at the scene several hours for overhaul.

No injuries were reported. No information about the cause of the fire was released. The Imperial Irrigation District also responded to the incident.
