A fire broke out Monday in a Palm Desert hotel, prompting evacuations and a third-alarm response from area fire agencies.
The blaze was reported around noon at the Marriott Fairfield Inn at 72300 Highway 111, near Fred Waring Drive, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
A fire department spokeswoman said crews arrived to find smoke billowing out of the hotel's roof, with evacuations already in progress. No injuries had been reported as of 1 p.m.
Nearly 100 firefighters from the county, Cal Fire and Cathedral City were working to contain the blaze.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
