Fire Erupts in Palm Desert Hotel

A fire broke out Monday in a Palm Desert hotel, prompting evacuations and a third-alarm response from area fire agencies.

A fire department spokeswoman said crews arrived to find smoke billowing out of the hotel's roof, with evacuations already in progress. No injuries had been reported as of 1 p.m.

Nearly 100 firefighters from the county, Cal Fire and Cathedral City were working to contain the blaze.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
