Fisherman Drowns on Lake Hemet

Man was attempting to untangle his line in the water.

A fisherman who attempted to swim out into the water off the north shore of Lake Hemet to untangle his line became tired, was unable to make it back to shore and drowned Saturday, a Riverside County sheriff's officials said.

The man was fishing with two friends and was reported to have drowned at about 8:05 a.m., Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. Scott Sargent said.

"A witness, a friend of the victim, swam out in an attempt to assist the victim back to shore," Sargent said. "The victim was unable to stay above water and the witness was unable to rescue the victim."

The Riverside County Sheriff Dive Team found the victim at about 4 p.m., Sargent said.

"The coroner's office took custody of the victim and the investigation is ongoing," he said.
