Five Injured in Crash Near Twentynine Palms , Three Helicopter Crews Called Out

Five people were injured Monday night in a crash near Twentynine Palms, where three helicopter crews and other ambulance personnel were called out to evacuate the victims, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred about 11:40 p.m. Oct. 14 on Amboy Road, north of Bell King Road, CHP Officer Ryan Swanson said in a statement.

Erik N. Bryant, 23, of Twentynine Palms, was driving a 2010 Dodge Avenger south on Amboy at a high rate of speed, Swanson said. Bryant lost control on a curve  in the road and the Avenger left the road, overturning in the desert.

Bryant was transported by ground ambulance to Desert Regional Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries, Swanson said.

Scott R. King, 21, of Twentynine Palms, was in the right front seat of the Avenger and he was ejected due to not wearing a seatbelt, Swanson said. King was flown by helicopter to Loma Linda University Medical Center for treatment of moderate injuries.

Alyssa  M. Canales, 23, of Twentynine Palms, was in the right rear seat and she was flown by helicopter to Desert Regional for treatment of moderate injuries, Swanson said.

Joshua S. Bowling, 21, of Twentynine Palms, was in the left rear seat and he was transported by ground ambulance to Desert Regional for treatment of minor injuries, Swanson said.

Alissa A. Myers, 25, of Twentynine Palms, was in the rear center seat and he was flown by helicopter to Desert Regional for treatment of moderate injuries, Swanson said.

Swanson was investigating the crash.

"If your vehicle travels off the road onto the sand shoulder, resist the urge to quickly jerk the steering wheel toward the pavement- slowly, and in a controlled manner, steer your vehicle back onto the pavement," Morongo Basin CHP personnel said.
