Four DUI Crashes: Arrests in Palm Desert, La Quinta, Indian Wells

Four motorists were arrested on suspicion of DUI in connection with crashes in Palm Desert, La Quinta and Indian Wells earlier this week, according to the Sheriff's Department.

The most recent incident was reported about 11:30 p.m. Dec. 19 at Fred Waring Drive and Cook Street, where the driver of a Chevy Cavalier crashed into the center median and a directional sign, Sgt. Radek Horkel of the Palm Desert Station said in a statement.

"The driver of the Chevy Cavalier, Tiffany Lynn Ginther, age 43 from of Palm Desert, was taken into custody for driving while intoxicated and booked into Riverside County Jail in the city of Indio," Horkel said. "Ginther suffered no injuries as a result of the collision."

Earler, at 2:28 a.m. Dec. 19, deputies responded to a report of a single vehicle roll-over collision at the corner of Monterey Avenue and Dinah Shore Drive, Sgt. Ken Black of the Palm Desert Station said.

"Upon arrival they discovered a white 2014 Chevrolet pick-up truck lying on its roof on the vacant commercial lot at the southeast corner of the intersection," Black said.

The truck had been traveling east at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control and struck a traffic signal pole at the southeast corner, shearing it from the sidewalk, Black said. The truck continued over city-owned sculptures and rock landscaping, causing it to overturn.

The driver, Francine Kitchen, 32, of Palm Desert, was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, Black said. City roads responded to the location regarding the damaged signal and city property.

About 6 p.m. Dec. 18, deputies responded to a report of a single vehicle traffic collision at Highway 111 and La Quinta Drive, Sgt. Ben Ramirez said.

"Barbara Bell, 44 years old of La Quinta, was eastbound on Highway 111, making a left turn into the shopping center at La Quinta Drive, Ramirez said. "She failed to negotiate the turn and collided with the curb on the northeast corner, causing minor damage to her vehicle. Bell was arrested for suspicion of driving while impaired with alcohol and/or drugs."

At 2 p.m. Dec. 18 deputies responded to Highway 111 and El Dorado Drive, in reference to a traffic collision, the driver of a Volkswagen Jetta crashed into a white Sterling 825 SL, Horkel said.

"The driver of the Volkswagen, James William Garvis age 52 from Palm Desert, was taken into custody for driving while intoxicated and booked into Riverside County Jail in the city of Indio," Horkel said.

Garvis and the female driver of the Sterling were not injured.
