FREEWAY FATALITY: Truck Driver Dies, Eastbound 10 Traffic Slows East of Indio

The crash was reported at 1:47 a.m. east of Dillon Road and near the Cactus City rest area, CHP officials said.

A truck driver died in a crash early Tuesday on eastbound Interstate 10 east of Coachella, and one lane of the freeway was expected to remain closed until 2 p.m. or 3 p.m., according to Cal Fire and the California Highway Patrol.

The crash was reported at 1:47 a.m. east of Dillon Road and near the Cactus City rest area, CHP officials said.

Firefighters responded and found a tractor trailer left the road, Jody Hagemann of Cal Fire Riverside County said in a statement.

The driver of the tractor trailer did not survive, Hagemann said.

As of 11:30 a.m. Feb. 12, the slow lane remained closed but eastbound traffic was moving, a CHP dispatcher in Indio said in a phone interview.
