Fresh Out of Jail, Man Suspected of Stealing From Blythe Bar, Casino

Public records indicate a suspected casino thief in Blythe had just been released from jail for an unrelated offense.

Police sought the public's help Thursday in finding a man suspected of stealing more than $2,000 worth of property from a Blythe bar and casino, a day after being released from jail for an unrelated offense.

Henry Avalos, 57, of Blythe, was suspected of breaking into Bruce's Bar and Casino in the 100 block of South Main Street. Police found a broken window about 7:30 a.m. Wednesday and other signs someone had broken in, and Avalos was caught on video doing so, Blythe police Lt. Robert Mathews said.

He said the owner of Bruce's reported two flat-screen televisions, a bar- top video game console, a cash register and several cases of beer were missing.

Avalos was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of public intoxication and released the same day, according to jail records.

"Officers report that at the time of the burglary, Avalos appeared to still be wearing the same clothes as when he was arrested," Mathews said.

Anyone with information about Avalos was asked to contact police at (760) 922-6111 or report an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers at (760) 921-2273.
