Harley Rider Dies in Crash at 10 Off-Ramp in Indio

An Indio man was fatally injured Friday night when he crashed a Harley-Davidson on the eastbound Interstate 10 off ramp at Monroe Street, according to the coroner.

Mark Wauben, 44, of Indio, lost control of the motorcycle while exiting the freeway, coroner's personnel reported. He was wearing a helmet.

The crash occurred after 11 p.m. Jan. 10, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Wauben was thrown about 50 feet from the motorcycle, CHP Officer Mike Radford said in a statement. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

"The cause of this collision is still under investigation at this time," Radford said Monday. "Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in this collision."

Anyone with more info was urged to call the Indio CHP at (760) 772-8900.
