Hemet Man Dies in Winnebago Crash on SR 62 East of Twentynine Palms

A Hemet man was fatally injured in a Winnebago crash Monday on State Route 62 east of Twentynine Palms, highway patrol and coroner's officials said.

The crash occurred shortly after 10:30 a.m. Dec. 2 on the westbound 62, approaching SR 177 in Riverside County, according to CHP and coroner's personnel.

James Stout, 85, of Hemet, was driving a Ford Winnebago towing a Jeep Cherokee on a flatbed trailer when the Ford traveled to the right, over a dirt embankment, into the open desert and overturned, CHP and coroner's personnel said.

The crash resulted in fatal injuries to the driver and minor injuries to the passenger, 84-year-old woman from Hemet, CHP Officer Mike Radford said. The woman was transported to JFK Memorial Hospital in Indio for treatment.

Alcohol and/or drugs did not appear to be a contributing factor in the collision, Radford said. The cause of the crash was being investigated.
