A female hiker has been airlifted to safety after being injured about two miles up the "Bump and Grind'' trail in Palm Desert, a county fire department
spokeswoman said.
The original call of a distressed hiker came at about 11:25 am, said CalFire spokesman Jody Hagemann.
Firefighters were initially going to hike down with the woman, then called for a helicopter, according to Hagemann.
The unidentified woman was flown to an area hospital for treatment of what are described as "heat-related injuries".
