Hiker Rescued from Trail Near Tramway

The dehydrated hiker was airlifted from the Cactus to Clouds trails.

Cabazon sheriff's officials helped rescue a dehydrated hiker who was ultimately airlifted from a trail near the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, a sheriff's sergeant said Monday.

John Cardenas of Indio called for help Sunday night from the "Cactus to Clouds" trail saying he was "out of water, dehydrated and cramping," Cabazon sheriff's Sgt. Anthony Williams said.

State park rangers found Cardenas, "but due to dehydration, they were unable to escort him safely out," Williams said.

Cardenas was later airlifted to safety, checked out for what Williams called mild dehydration and released.

A number of hikers require rescue from Palm Springs and Palm Desert trails every year.
