HOLIDAY TRAFFIC: Sunday Evening Slow on Westbound 10 Thru the Pass

Thousands of motorists found slow going Sunday evening on westbound Interstate 10 in the San Gorgonio Pass.

Just before sundown Dec. 1, westbound traffic was moving at speeds of 15 to 20 miles per hour at Main Street in Cabazon, just east of Morongo Casino Resort & Spa.

Freeway speeds on the 10 increased to normal in Banning and Beaumont.

Slowdowns on the 10 were evident earlier Sunday afternoon in the Coachella Valley as far east as Jefferson Street, a California Highway Patrol dispatcher said in a phone interview at 5:50 p.m.

The four-day Thanksgiving Weekend is one of the busiest travel times of the year in Southern California, and the Sunday after Thanksgiving can be the busiest day of the year on some freeways.
