Indio Shooter ID'd as Palm Desert Man

Karl Watson was shot and killed by Indio police after he shot an Indio woman sitting in her car.

Riverside County Sheriff's have idenitifed the shooter in Monday's killing of an Indio woman as Karl Watson, 47, from Palm Desert. 

On Monday at about 2:25p.m., Indio Police responded the 81900 block fo Hoover Avenue on the report of shots fired.  

The preliminary investigation revealed that Watson went to the 81900 block of Hoover Avenue looking for Ana Maria Gonzalez, 50 , from Indio. Watson located Gonzalez at the location and shot her several times while she sat in her car.

According to Riverside County Sheriff's Deputy Angel Ramos, shortly thereafter, the Indio Police officer arrived on scene and Watson shot toward the officer numerous times. The officer managed to return fire. Watson and the officer became involved in a physical struggle for a firearm. As a result, the Indio Police officer received substantial but non-life-threatening injuries. The secondary Indio Police officer arrived on scene as the first officer was physically struggling with Watson over a gun. The secondary officer was forced to fire his duty weapon at Watson.

Arriving back-up officers immediately provided medical assistance to Gonzalez, Watson and the officer. Additionally, Cal-Fire paramedics were summoned to the scene. Gonzalez and Watson succumbed to their injuries on scene and the Indio Police Officer was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
