Juveniles Caught After Stealing Car

Two youths steal a car from a woman in a Palm Desert parking lot, ram a good samaritan following the stolen car, and crash into a parked car before being found in Indian Wells.

Two boys who allegedly stole a 64-year-old woman's car in a Palm Desert parking lot today were tracked down in Indian Wells, where they were found hiding in a shed, a sheriff's spokesman said.

The carjacking was reported in the 73000 block of Highway 111 shortly
after 11 a.m., sheriff's spokesman Deputy Angel Ramos said. The woman was
approached as she was getting into her vehicle and forced to get out of the
car, he said, though it was unclear if the suspects had weapons.

The woman, who sustained minor injuries, ran to a nearby bank and called
for help, Ramos said.

A witness followed the suspects south on Highway 111, until the good
Samaritan's vehicle was rammed by the stolen car, according to Ramos, who said the witness was unhurt.

Not long afteward, the stolen vehicle crashed into a parked car, and the
two suspects ran off, Ramos said.

A California Highway Patrol helicopter was used to help find the youths, who were tracked to a shed in the backyard of a residence in the 44000 block of Erie Court in Indian Wells and taken into custody without incident.

The boys, whose names and ages were withheld, were booked into Juvenile
Hall on suspicion of robbery, carjacking, assault with a deadly weapon, hit-and-
run and conspiracy to commit a crime, Ramos said.
