La Quinta Man Accused of Crashing Into City Sign While DUI

A 24-year-old La Quinta man was arrested Wednesday for allegedly driving under the influence and damaging landscaping and a city sign in Indian Wells.

The single-vehicle crash was reported about 2:10 a.m. on Highway 111 east of Cook Street. 

Authorities determined that Fredrick Zazueta was driving west on 111 when he lost control, Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. Mark Hoyt said.

"The vehicle drove across the center landscaped median causing minor damage to landscape lighting and a city sign and came to rest in the eastbound lanes facing west," Hoyt said in a statement.  "It was determined intoxication may have been a factor in this collision and Zazueta was booked into the Riverside County jail in Indio for driving under the influence.

Zazueta was being held in lieu of $2,500 bail, according to jail records.
