La Quinta Teen Arrested in Armed Robbery, Second Suspect Sought

Police say they tracked the boy suspect down when they found the vehicle allegedly used in an armed robbery in a La Quinta driveway.

A 17-year-old La Quinta boy arrested in an armed robbery in Indio was in custody Tuesday, and sheriff's detectives sought a second suspect.

Witnesses told sheriff's deputies the robber came in the store in the 47500 block of Van Buren Street with a white bandanna over his face about 3:15 p.m. Monday, showed a gun, demanded cash, got some and fled, sheriff's Cpl. Angel Ramos said.

The robber was driven away in a dark-colored compact car, which was found in a driveway in the 53000 block of Avenida Madero in La Quinta, where deputies surrounded the home and ordered the residents out, he said.

"Officers surrounded the home and made numerous attempts to call out the occupants of the residence," Ramos said.  "As a precautionary measure, due the seriousness of the crime, the immediate area was cordoned off."

The boy, whose name was withheld because of his age, came out of the house and was arrested about 9 p.m., Ramos said, adding that the boy was a participant in the crime.

"Because this is an ongoing investigation, I cannot reveal more," he said.

Anyone who can identify the second suspect was asked to call the sheriff's department at (760) 863-8990 or report anonymous tips to Coachella Valley Crime Stoppers at (760) 341-7867.
