Hearing set for alleged jewelry robbers

The men allegedly help up the high-end jewelry store on El Paseo before leading deputies on a 50-mile chase.

A hearing that will determine whether there is enough evidence for three men accused in the robbery of an upscale jewelry store to stand trial was set today for next month.

Riverside County Superior Court Judge Victoria Cameron set a Sept. 21 preliminary hearing date, which is expected to last about three hours.

Zaque Xavier Sykes, 27, Joshua Marquise Madison, 18, both of Compton, and Brandon Christian King, 20, of Los Angeles, face charges of robbery, second degree burglary and evading arrest in the July 1 robbery of .

They face sentence enhancing allegations of committing a felony for the benefit of a criminal street gang.

Madison is charged with an additional count of participating in a criminal street gang.

A 16-year-old boy was also arrested on suspicion of the robbery, but information on him was limited because of his age.

All the jewelry was recovered following a more than 50-mile high speed chase that ended in Moreno Valley, according to a sheriff's official.

The men allegedly used a replica gun during the robbery, during which no one was hurt.
