Local Car Wash Robbed by Man Wielding Pepper Spray

Police need help tracking down the man who they say sprayed an employee with pepper spray to steal cash from the business.

A local car wash was hit up in an armed robbery Tuesday, in which the assailant used a pepper spray gun to get past an employee and steal cash, a sheriff's official said.

The incident happened at 6:40 a.m. at the Desert Express Car Wash at 43-632 Washington Street in La Quinta, on the edge of Palm Desert, according to Sheriff's Sergeant Steve DaSilva.

"Investigation revealed a male suspect entered the business, sprayed an employee with pepper spray, and stole an undisclosed amount of cash," DaSilva said.

After taking the money, that man then ran out of the business and out of sight.

The suspect is described as being 5'11', with a medium build.

"He was wearing a blue hooded jacket with the hood pulled over his head, black pants, and sunglasses or goggles," DaSilva said.

Anyone with information about this crime was asked to contact La Quinta police at (760) 836-3215.
