Local CHP Warns of Increased DUI Patrols for Holiday Weekend

In addition to amping up DUI patrols, officers will be aggressively enforcing other traffic laws like seat belt requirements.

California Highway Patrol officers will be looking for intoxicated drivers and aggressively enforcing other traffic laws over Memorial Day weekend.

"The CHP wants everyone to have a safe weekend," CHP Officer Joe Zagorski said, adding that enforcement will be focused on violations that endanger the motoring public.

Children younger than 6 or under 60 pounds are required to be in a safety seat. Driving without a seat belt or driving with a phone held to your ear also warrants a ticket.

A drunken driving conviction can cost thousands of dollars and shadow the offender for years.

The CHP is among public safety agencies participating in the national seatbelt enforcement program "Click It or Ticket," which runs through June 2.
