Man Accused of Murder in Indio Area Stabbing

A man was behind bars Wednesday and held on suspicion of murder in connection with a stabbing that occurred Monday in the unincorporated Indio area, according to the Sheriff's Department.

Deputies went to the 84000 block of Lingayan after 7 p.m. Jan. 13 to investigate a reported assault with a deadly weapon, Sgt. Jeff Buompensiero of the sheriff's Thermal Station said in a statement.

"Upon arrival deputies located a Hispanic male adult in the driveway of a residence," Buompensiero said. "It appeared the male had suffered several stab wounds. The victim was transported to Desert Regional Medical Center, but died from his injuries."

The victim was later identified as Arthur Felix Candelaria, 57, of Indio, Buompensiero said.

Detectives from identified the suspect as David Montoya Sanchez, ,43, of Indio, who was located and arrested in the area of Jackson Street and Avenue 52 in Coachella, Buompensiero said.

Sanchez was held Jan. 15 at Indio Jail on $1 million bail, according to inmate records. He has a court date Thursday.
