Man Accused of Speeding with No Lights, Rear-Ending Other Vehicle, DUI

A Coachella man was arrested Wednesday and accused of speeding with no lights, rear-ending another vehicle in a night time crash, and driving under the influence, according to the Sheriff's Department.

The crash was reported about 8:50 p.m. Jan. 15 at Grapefruit Boulevard south of 48th Avenue, Sgt. John Clark of the Thermal Station said in a statement issued Friday.

"Jesus Valadez-Elias, 21 years of Coachella, was driving southbound Grapefruit, south of 48th Avenue at a high rate of speed," Clark said. "Witnesses said they saw Valadez-Elias driving with no headlights on, when he ran into the rear end of another vehicle, which was also traveling southbound Grapefruit."

The driver of the other vehicle sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital, then treated and released, Clark said.

"Valadez-Elias sustained minor injuries and was arrested for suspicion of driving while impaired with alcohol and/or drugs," Clark said.

Valadez-Elias was booked late Wednesday at Indio Jail, cited, given a court date in March, and released, according to inmate records.
