Man Crashes Car Into Tree, Brick Wall

Predawn crash leads to arrest on suspicion of DUI.

A suspected drunken driver crashed his mid-size car into the center median of a La Quinta street, veered across the lanes and plowed into a brick wall, a sheriff's sergeant said Sunday.

Michael Hernandez, 28, of La Quinta, was heading west on Avenue 52 in a Ford Fusion during the predawn hours Saturday when it struck the center median west of Washington Street and he lost control, Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. BJ Adams said.

The impact caused Hernandez's car to veer over a street curb, strike a tree and slam into the wall. Sheriff's deputies arrived at the scene and arrested Hernandez for suspicion of drunken driving, Adams said.
