A 67-year-old Palm Springs man died when his car left the road and struck a wall, officials said Wednesday.
The crash on South Belardo Road west of South Palm Canyon Drive was reported about 4:55 p.m. Tuesday. Joe Covington was driving south on Belardo when his car went over a curb at a bend in the road and struck a retaining wall, according to police and coroner's officials.
The man was the car's only occupant and died at the scene, Palm Springs police Sgt. Mike Villegas said.
Villegas said it was unclear if Covington had a medical emergency before the crash or if drugs or alcohol played a part.
