Man Dies in Palm Desert Crash Near Walmart

The fatal collision happened on Dinah Shore, between Toni and Gateway, during the evening commute hours Monday.

A man died following a major crash near a Palm Desert shopping center Monday, police report.

The crash happened just after 5 p.m., along Dinah Shore Drive, just north of Walmart, according to Sheriff's Sgt. David Adams.

"The driver of the vehicle succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased by Emergency Medical Services personnel at the scene," Adams said.  "His identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin."

According to Adams, when police got on scene, they found a vehicle had gone off the road and into the desert area along westbound Dinah Shore.  It's not yet clear what led up to the crash, though police don't think alcohol or drugs played a part.

While the scene was investigated and cleared, Dinah Shore was closed for approximately three and a half hours Monday night, Adams said.

No other vehicles were involved.

Anyone with information regarding this traffic collision is encouraged to contact Officer Bradley Stone at the Palm Desert Police Department at (760) 836-1600.
