Man Falls on Hopalong Cassidy Trail, Helicopter Crew Does Hoist Rescue

A man hiking a Palm Desert trail fell about 40 feet Monday and a CHP helicopter did a hoist rescue, then flew him to an ambulance, a Cal Fire spokeswoman said.

The incident was reported at 10:54 a.m. Jan. 13 on the Hopalong Cassidy Trail, Jennifer Fuhrman of Cal Fire-Riverside County said in a statement.

Firefighters responded to the 71100 block of Oasis and some personnel walked further to get to the Hopalong trail, Fuhrman said.

The man was hiking with a group when he fell about 40 feet down an embankment, Fuhrman said. He was flown by CHP H60 crew to a waiting ambulance for transport to an area hospital with moderate injuries.

The man's name and hometown were not released.
